Poetry Slam & Share

Celebrate the Power of Poetry with Your Students!

To celebrate National Poetry Month, We Do It 4 the Culture™ hosts an annual Poetry Slam & Share for students. Students are encouraged to submit their original poems for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card.

They Not Like “Me”

The theme for 2025 is They Not Like “Me” — a celebration of what makes you different, bold, and completely original. We welcome submissions from individual students, entire classes, or small groups to promote collaboration and shared learning experiences.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions should be recorded oral video poems
  • Videos may be no more than 90 seconds long
  • Submissions must be received by May 9
  • Student submissions will also include a permission form to be completed by a parent or guardian.

Selected poems will be featured on our Instagram account as finalists, and the submission with the most “likes” will be the winner! The winning student will receive a $100 Visa gift card.

Let’s celebrate National Poetry Month and the importance of emotional intelligence and empathy through the power of poetry!

Joseph has led thousands of workshops across the country, empowering youth and adults alike through the power of story and spoken word. This special poetry workshop is designed just for We Do It 4 the Culture™ facilitators to help you support your students as they prepare to submit their poems for the Slam and Share.

Once you’ve finished watching the workshop, check out our latest lesson, “They Not Like ‘Me'” that guides students through the process of writing an original poem (available for free subscribers).
